Those outside the egg sector in the UK may be unaware of the quiet revolution taking place on supermarket shelves. Not only are the major supermarkets committed to free range farmed eggs, but they are also increasingly adding white eggs to their offer.White eggs offer a “win-win” for everybody – a lighter touch on the environment, welfare advantages and incredible productivity over longer cycles.
The undisputed market leading white egg laying breed is the Dekalb White, bred by Hendrix Genetics and distributed in the UK by our client Joice and Hill.
Marketed under the strapline “pure white magic” coined by our very own copywriter in chief, Neil Smith. Dekalb White flocks now regularly lay 500 eggs plus, per bird, over 100-week cycles. A performance that would have been unheard of until recently and which exceeds the results from brown egg laying breeds.
To recognise the producers with flocks that reach the 500 egg landmark, we created the DKW 500 Egg Club and issue a certificate to the growing number of producers achieving this level of success.
Now we have produced this ‘Hall of Fame’ booklet to build awareness of this outstanding breed.
